On January 21st, we took to radio to talk about our interests in restoring our historic local locomotive no.1129. It was a rather cold one for Las Vegas, -8 to be exact, but the chill in the air wasn't going to slow us down from speaking with JP Baca at KFUN radio. The radio station, which focuses on local promotion to a broad audience, offered for us to step into the airwaves and broadcast the audacious goals we had in mind to help Las Vegas. It was an inspiring conversation, JP leaving no stone unturned. We finished the show out with his work as a councilman trying to improve rail safety with San Miguel County, giving us a glimpse into past and present local government life, and its constant work to improve public safety.
During the conversation we made mention on the importance of working with our southern neighbors in rail preservation, the New Mexico Rail Heritage Society and their engine, No.2926. The group hopes to do mainline excursions to show the power and majesty of the mighty 4-8-4 Baldwins that ruled the rail. This of course brought up a major point regarding Las Vegas and a tourist attraction. One that repairs local historical context, while improving access to jobs and careers all while funneling tourist dollars into the coffers of the city to boot. It was a refreshing conversation, one that even councilman Michael Montoya heard over the air. It's encouraging to know that our city/county officials are hearing us, know of us, and potentially want to work with us and the community to solve this rather big task. We hope that in a future segment on KFUN, we can bring our friends from New Mexico Heritage Rail on air and talk about ways we can work together to solve the most difficult issues at hand. In the meantime, we will continue working on more advertising and marketing ideas while we await a response from our city officials. We greatly appreciate your time, The 4RO team
